The ATMs (Air Training Missiles) were used for live firing exercises to simulate tactical missile launches without a live warhead.
Features a tactical guidance, control, and propulsion section, but the armament section lacks a fuze, fuze booster, and explosive lead to prevent warhead detonation upon target intercept.
The ATM-54C is based on the AIM-54C, introduced in 1986, with digital electronics, extended range, and improved reliability.
