BMP-1 (Object 765)
The BMP-1 (Ob'yekt 765 / Object 765), or Boyevaya Mashina Pekhoty 1 ("Infantry Fighting Vehicle 1"), is a Soviet amphibious tracked infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) introduced in 1966, notable as the first mass-produced IFV globally.
The improved BMP-1 (Object 765) in 1965 was build on the improved Object 764 prototype
Designed to combine the mobility and protection of an armored personnel carrier (APC) with the firepower of a light tank, it was intended to support infantry in nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) environments while providing fire support alongside main battle tanks (MBTs).
Its design, developed by the Chelyabinsk Tractor Works (ChTZ) under P.P. Isakov, featured a welded steel hull, a low silhouette, and amphibious capability, with a crew of three (driver, commander, gunner) and capacity for eight infantrymen.
The vehicle is armed with a 73mm 2A28 Grom low-pressure smoothbore gun, a coaxial 7.62mm PKT machine gun, and a rail for the 9M14 Malyutka (AT-3 Sagger) anti-tank guided missile.
