The BMP-2 (Object 675 / Ob'yekt 675) is a Soviet second-generation amphibious infantry fighting vehicle, developed as an improvement over the earlier BMP-1.
It entered service in the early 1980s. The main differences from the BMP-1 include a new two-man turret, a 30mm 2A42 autocannon (replacing the BMP-1’s 73mm gun), improved night vision, and the ability to fire new anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) such as the Konkurs and Fagot. The vehicle is fully amphibious and can carry a squad of infantry.
Key features of the BMP-2:
- Armament: 30mm 2A42 autocannon, 7.62mm PKT coaxial MG, ATGM launcher (Konkurs or Fagot)
- Crew: 3 (commander, gunner, driver) + 7 infantry
- Armor: Welded steel, protection against small arms and shell splinters
