The R-37M (K-37M), codenamed Izdeliye 610M or Product 180, is a modernization of the R-37, initiated in 2006 to address the original’s reliance on Ukrainian components and to enhance compatibility with modern Russian fighters. The R-37M incorporates Russian-only guidance systems and was designed to equip the MiG-31BM, Su-35S, Su-30SM, and Su-57.

Key Differences:

  • The original R-37 used a semi-active/active radar seeker (variant of the Agat 9B-1388), while the R-37M and RVV-BD use a modern active radar seeker (Agat 9B-1103M-15) with improved ECCM and "fire-and-forget" capability.
  • New MFBU-610MSh control system
  • R-37M and RVV-BD have longer ranges (200–400 km) compared to the original R-37 due to the new jettisonable rocket booster.
  • R-37 was for intended to be used with the MiG-31M while the R-37M and RVV-BD are compatible with a wider range of modern Russian fighters.

The R-37M missile entered service in 2018 with the MiG-31BM and 2020 with the Su-35S. Extensively used in the 2022 Ukraine conflict.

Platforms:

  • MiG-31BM (up to six missiles)
  • Su-35S (up to four)
  • Su-30SM2, Su-57
  • potentially MiG-35
