The BMP-3M is an upgraded BMP-3 upgraded with a new engine and turret, new ATGM system 9K116-3 Basnya

- New Bakhcha-U two-man turret (full 360º, weapon elevation from -5 to +60º)
- Retains the 100mm 2A70 gun and 30mm 2A72 autocannon of the original BMP-3 that can fire:

- AP-I (Armor-Piercing Incendiary) (30mm)
- HE-I (High Explosive Incendiary) (30mm)
- HE-T (High-Explosive Tracer) (30mm)

- 9M117M1 laser-guided anti-tank missiles
- new autoloader
- Retains the 100mm 2A70 gun and 30mm 2A72 autocannon of the original BMP-3 that can fire:
- Fire Control System:
- dual-channel FLIR gunner's sight
- new TKN-AI commander's panoramic thermal imaging device
- laser rangefinder and ballistic computer
- Armor:
- improved armor protection
- can be fitted with additional ERA and APS.
- new sighting system (Sodema) that includes a vertical-storage conveyor and a new autoloader
- retains the same UTD-29M diesel engine as the standard BMP-3
- two-axis stabilization
- retains the amphibious capability of the original BMP-3
