The BMMP (bojevaya mashina morskoj pekhoti) is a BMP-3 version for naval infantry, fitted with the turret of the BMP-2.

It is a new-generation Russian amphibious infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) concept, specifically designed for the Russian Naval Infantry (marines). It is not a direct variant of the BMP-3, but rather a parallel development intended to address the unique requirements of amphibious assault operations, with a focus on high-speed water mobility and modularity.

The BMMP is intended to operate from new Russian amphibious assault ships, such as the Lavina-class, and to provide the naval infantry with a vehicle capable of rapid over-the-horizon assaults, even in Arctic conditions.

Key features & differences:

  • designed to achieve over 20 mph (32 km/h) in water using water jets, and over 45 mph (72 km/h) on land
  • modular tracked chassis
  • three-person crew and carry up to 10 marines
  • The primary armament is planned to be the "Kinzhal" unmanned turret, similar to the AU-220M Baikal, mounting a 57mm automatic cannon, a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun, and advanced sighting systems
  • turret is capable of firing programmable airburst, armor-piercing, and guided munitions, as well as gun-launched ATGMs with a range of over 9 miles (14 km)
  • designed to accept other turrets, including the BMP-3’s 100mm/30mm combination, or the Impulse-2 turret with a 30mm cannon and six ATGMs
