Il-76T "Candid-A"
The Il-76T (transport) was the first main production model, with an extra fuel tank in the wing center section and minor changes from the prototype. It was civilian-oriented, but often used by the military. This aircraft is capable of medium haul flights, with the IL76TD model offering a slightly improved range.
After the first ten production Il-76 planes were built, the factory switched to an improved "Il-76T" configuration (transport). It was externally the same as the base model, but had an additional fuel tank in the wing center section and some other small changes. It retained the NATO reporting name of "Candid-A".
It can carry a payload of 48.000 KG in 180 m³ with a maximum range of 4600 KM / 2858 Miles.
Like the Starlifter, the Il-76T featured a high-mounted swept wing with anhedral droop and four turbojets on underwing pylons, plus a high swept tee tail. The main landing gear was stowed in large fairings alongside the fuselage to ensure that the cargo bay remained unobstructed. Cargo was loaded through a rear ramp, with an upward-folding rear door and outward-folding clamshell doors, all of which were hydraulically actuated.
