The T-72M1K1 is a testbed tank that was modified by the Finnish Army to improve its performance and suitability for Finnish conditions.
The new engine was a V-46-6 diesel engine that produced 780 hp, which improved the mobility and fuel efficiency of the tank.
The T-72M1K1 also had:
- a laser rangefinder
- a ballistic computer
- a stabilized gunner's sight
- a thermal imager for better accuracy and night vision.
The tank was also fitted with ERA (explosive reactive armor) blocks on the turret and hull to increase protection against anti-tank weapons.
The T-72M1K1 was one of the most advanced versions of the T-72 in service with any country.
